Reviews for Porter-Cable 77240 24-Inch Omnijig Joinery System (Tools & Home Improvement) Well, after months of ready, and several professionaljects that wanted dovetils, I finally have this jig. The overall match and end of the jig is appropriate. It is well concept out, and smartly made up to a level. My only quibbles would be:

    1. The variable finger template used to be poorly assembled which consequenceed in it being bowed along its length, and the two finish castings weren't of uniform thickness. There used to be actually about .065" of bow, and this consequenceed in a gorgeous imprecise mounting on the desktop, specifically since the finish castings are used for a reference in environment router depth for thru dovetails, this was unacceptable! The assembled aluminum castings have been bowed both throughout the size and width. This used to be due to the machining, or lack thereof, of the two halves of the aluminum castings on each end of the template. The metal bars didn't match into these halves when assembled, and the castings are held aside, and in reality bowed. The inside of these castings had some casting nipples still in location the location they mate with the metal bars, and the castings themselves were in fact deformed in each route by the manufacturing unit meeting against the bars which did not match. I first had to re-flatten the castings in a precision vise, and then computing device the bar mating floors within the castings flat. With a couple of trials of reassembly and extra machining, I used to be able to reassemble the tops of the templates to a uniform thickness, and surface flatness. I diminished the nonlinearity of the template to less than .010" in all directions, which was fairly an growth.

    2. The mounting bars (where the template and stabilizer bar are mounted) were now not parallel to each other or the horizontal floor of the jig. The proper was once 0.1 degrees up at the outdoor end, and the left used to be up zero.4 degrees. The left bar outer tip was once about .07" higher than the matchting side mounting bar! This end resulted in an incapability to flatten the template once morest a section of timber, and having the stabilizer bar up above the template fingers floor by using about .010" on the left aspect, which interfered with the router base making contact with the template on the left aspect.
Reviews for Porter-Cable 77240 24-Inch Omnijig Joinery System (Tools & Home Improvement) I've had a chance to chop just a few joints with this and find it applicable. I benefit from the design, the heavy aluminum. Machined surfaces in some places. Lots of easy to make changes to fine-tune the joint. After tweaking some mis-alignments, it's cutting good joints.

    Things I do not like:

    1. The entrance face wasn't 90 levels to the highest face. Easily corrected, however now not documented. Remove the three duvet plates on the entrance piece and you are going to find locking screws. The locking screws are really tight. Once loosened, the entrance piece will rotate.

    2. The improve bars had beenn't parallel to the highest face. I needed to shim the again of every. Warning: the screws holding them are loc-tited.

    3. Probably my biggest criticism is the pin-fingers are higher than the out-board fortify. This lead tos the router the hand up because it transfers from finger to finger (I cut widely-spaced pins). Low-tech, however I put wood coffee stir-sticks underneath each facet of the out-board toughen to shim it up.

    4. If you chop widely-spaced pins, the router is not toughened between finger-pins. 1/8" spacers between the finger-pins provides the necessary beef up.

    5. The finger-board wants to maneuver as it is tightened down. One facet wants to tug close to the stop, the opposite needs to drag away. Result of right-hand threads on the clamp knobs.

    Things I like:

    1. Very straightforward to fine-tune the joint. Micrometer adjustments in the matchting locations.

    2. Intuitive to make use of. After you've obtainedten lower a few joints! A little intimidating at first.

    3. The base is extremely neatly made.
Reviews for Porter-Cable 77240 24-Inch Omnijig Joinery System (Tools & Home Improvement) I have been a certified woodenworker for the remaining 12 years and in that level, I have had the chance to chop dovetails each method that you could suppose of. Among the dovetail router jigs I've used (Akeda, Leigh, the OLD PC omnijig, and the Keller system), the Omnijig has bought to be my least favourite.

Two years ago I started working for a small upstart furnishings company. The newly redesigned Omnijig was once among certainly one of their first buys. I was once skeptical. It looked like the variable spaced "fingers" have been bowing across their very own weight and the aluminum resting bar used to be no longer coplanar. It seemed like the cheapo piece of pewter the set-screws tighten once morest would strip after a number of months.
